Blooms

These are some of the lovely flowers by our front door. I really like these, and in the past they have been 'pruned ' by my husband who was thinking that he'd tidy up the garden!!! He couldn't understand why I wasn't impressed............

Persimmons

This is our 30 year old miniature Persimmon tree. It is laden with fruit, this is witness to the extensive rain we have had this year because it has only ever fruited twice before and even then there has only been a sparse number of fruit.

Redwork

This is another little project I am working on which is really fun. I love the cute little images and and sayigs. It is good because it is very portable and you don't need to remember much equipment/tools when going out.

These little redworks get appliqued to some blocks. I am using red/burgundy and tan fabrics.

Mrs Miller's Journey

Well, I seem to have more quilts started than I really was aware of. Though this is a picture of one of the corner blocks of a quilt I have been doing at Primitive Patches. It has taken me a while to 'get into' but maybe I will finish this before my Civil War Bride? Who knows....................

Dear Jane

Today I went to my "Dear Jane'' group at Primitive Patches in Mentone. The other women in this group are keen 'Dear Jane' sewers and they are all well advanced. One lady is up to hand quilting hers, all the quilts are lovely even though they are all different. I managed one block today - this takes my total to 4 blocks - quite a way to go for me I think!!!

Costumes of the Ballet Russes

This is a picture of some of the costumes worn by members of the Ballet Russes. It appears in my gorgeous new book from the National Gallery in Canberra. I will not be able to get to Canberra to see this fabulous exhibition but at least I can read about it in this fantastically illustrated and informative book.

There are also photos of members of the Ballet Russes. It was worth every cent!

What did I do today?

I looked around the place today and saw all the housework/cleaning.washing etc that needed doing and decided the best thing I could do was a little sewing !! So I did a little embroidery (a bit wonky I admit) on some little baby all in one singlets and prepared the binding for my hexagon quilts. Once the binding is sewn in place by machine, I really enjoy the hand sewing. Sadly, I don't think I'll get the binding on today. Maybe tomorrow I'll do some cleaning?????

Bride's progress

Well the Civil War Bride Quilt is back on the radar after I finally found her after a massive search last week. This is to show that I have acually started work and though she is footless, hairless and generally half baked she is on her way - ya hoo!

Pom Pom de Paris fabric

I promised myself no more fabric - but I couldn't resist 30cm each of these 4 fabrics from the French General's new range Pom Pom de Paris. These fabrics feel wonderful and are such pretty colours and designs. I love the birds on the fabric, they remind me of the old fashioned blue bird of happiness broach my mum and dad gave me when I was about 12 years old. Aren't they lovely?

Civil War Bride - located!

Yes, it took me a while but I found her. When I did find her, my Civil War Bride was neatly packed away in a drawer safe and sound. This is a photo of 2 of the blocks I have completed - though there are still quite a few to do.................I have to say though, the photo doesn't really show the true colours of the blocks the background is darker and the appliques shapes are brighter in real life.

I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed doing the blocks I had already started. I am looking forward to finishing her now.

A lovely walk by the bay

It was a lovely morning for a walk. You can see from the photo the sea was calm and the weather, though overcast was very pleasant. A nice coffee in St Kilda and back to tackle the housework - ick!

What to do next? I really need to finish something!!

Like most quilters I have many quilts on the go at once. This is for several reasons: I get bored with the one project no matter how much I like it; I can always find something new that excites me and I can not wait to get my hands on the next project also I am inspired by so many quilters that I want to do what everyone else is doing too! However, I am committed to finishing some of my many UFO's. All I have to do is to find the project I am after in the mess that is my sewing room - I thought I knew where it was but no..................my goal for today is to locate my 'Civil War Bride' blocks and work on them next. I have a booking for quilting in 2 months, so that gives my some structure and a deadline to work to.

Back from the Quilters

This is the second of my hexagon from diamonds quilts. Desley Maisano of Addicted to Quilts always does a fabulous job with my quilts and I am never disappointed. It is always exciting to collect my quilts from Desley as the quilting always enhnces the quilt.

Wildlife!

We have some little residents in our roof at Yandoit - isn't he cute. He is a Brushed Tailed Phascogale, actually I am not sure if he is a boy or a girl but he lives with one other in our roof! They are small and quick. In November last year there were 10 babies there but now there are only 2 left. Still 2 is probably enough!
